The contract
The COVID-19 pandemic makes installing fire protection systems for the major project more difficult
The solution
Okel GmbH and wego vti join forces with maximum flexibility
The result
Even under pandemic conditions, the project was completed on time
Giving it your all, even under exceptional circumstances
The four-storey building complex at Kassel Central Station is currently one of the city’s largest construction projects. As part of the drywall works, wego vti supplied the fire protection ceilings, fire protection walls and metal ceiling panels.
Although Okel and wego have worked together many times before, a joint project on this scale is rare for both sides. The circumstances were also unusual this time: maximum flexibility and reliability were required throughout the project period—not only in logistical matters—due to the working situation. Because of COVID-19, this alternated between home-office setups and teams on site. A challenge Okel knows how to handle—not only in Kassel. Full power is also required on three further projects in Dillenburg, Kassel and Frankfurt am Main.
The fact that, in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, it is possible to deliver a prestige project such as the complete drywall package for the new Fraunhofer Institute shows that it pays to pool resources—and in doing so, achieve the best possible outcome for the developer, too.
Key project facts
For the City of Kassel, with around 200,000 inhabitants, the IEE building is currently one of the largest construction projects. With a usable floor area of 7,600 square metres, it will include offices, seminar rooms and laboratories, among other facilities—around 320 institute employees are expected to be accommodated in the four-storey building.
