Cozy Atmosphere and Perfect Acoustics
Not far from Lake Schlänitzsee and Marquardt Castle, surrounded by green meadows and trees, the Kulturscheune Marquardt in northern Potsdam has long established itself as a permanent institution for various events. The former fruit barn is now a hub for the local cultural and heritage association Wublitztal e. V., which offers space here for music and theater performances, cinema evenings, as well as festivals and celebrations of all kinds. The interior ambiance still resembles a typical barn structure: a spacious area offers room for dancing or seating, and the dark support beams lend the room a rustic coziness.
Wego/Vti Advises on Acoustic Interior Finishing
To ensure that future events, which can sometimes get a bit loud, are also guaranteed to be a success, the owners decided to improve the overall acoustics. First, the reverberation time was measured to develop a concept for action. The commissioned company Bär Fliesen & Trockenbau GmbH installed the first partial solution in the middle of the barn, which has a double effect: The eight-part sliding wall “apn Area Flex LUV” can divide the room in the middle if required and simultaneously discreetly absorbs sound. A second, smaller version improves acoustics towards the hallway. The wego vti team at the Potsdam location supported the consultation, material selection, and delivery of the various components with their expertise in acoustic interior finishing.
To avoid unnecessarily disturbing the visual appeal of the Kulturscheune with conspicuous sound absorbers, the executing company also focused on a design that could be easily integrated into the building’s concept for further measures. Individual round ceiling absorbers in various sizes are attached to the wooden ceiling structure with wire ropes, ensuring that the majority of it remains visible.
An Acoustic Solution with a Message
When designing a special acoustic solution, the operators of the Kulturscheune were able to incorporate a personally selected motif. A two by five-meter acoustic wall mural was created using digital printing and looks like a large photo canvas. With the inscription “I love Marquardt,” it has found a suitable place directly above the bar. As a regional institution, the Kulturscheune contributes not only to good acoustics with this image but also to its connection to the location.
Key Project Facts
The Kulturscheune Marquardt in northern Potsdam is an important event venue. When installing the acoustic solutions, a key goal for Bär Fliesen & Trockenbau GmbH was to preserve the rustic charm of the former fruit barn. This was achieved through sound-absorbing sliding walls, ceiling absorbers suspended by wire ropes, and a large acoustic wall mural. wego vti advised on material selection and supplied the building materials.
